Defense Day Pakistan – The Land of Pure

6th of September every year is celebrated as the Defence Day in Pakistan. Like all other national days, this day also has a vital importance in the history of Pakistan. This day is dedicated to the forces defending Pakistan against all odds on the country’s borders and within. The history of this day dates back to the war between Pakistan and India in 1965 which took place on this day. Since then, Pakistani celebrate this day in the memory of those who sacrificed their lives for the homeland in that war. This article is dedicated to the armed forces working day and night for the independence and solidarity of Pakistan. A basic difference between Police and other security forces like Pakistan Army, Rangers, ISI and others is that of mutual respect. We see in our everyday life that there is tension between Police and common man. A common man tries to get away from the policemen and not to get involved with. The case is different when it comes to other security firms. Military, Rangers, Special Forces, they have respect in a common man’s life. We see that even in the current situation of chaos in our country, every political party pointing at each other’s status and rules, when army is involved, no one questions their role or loyalty. The reason being the trust and respect for army. There are corrupt people everywhere who destroy the image of any organization or that particular class of people. Similarly, there are many good and honest ones too who make that class trustworthy. Politics has now become a game of money and power. Whoever gets the charge of the country, tries to make as much for themselves as they can within the allocated time period. There are a lot of examples and we all know that. All such events develop trust issues among a common man and one with the power. Mostly people don’t trust politicians and what they say. Army on the other hand id trusted with the security of the nation as well as all other aspects of life. According to a survey, Pakistanis trust army the most. I have been inspired by Pakistan Army since I was a child. I always wanted to join army but due to certain reasons, I could not. I’m pursuing my degree from an army institute and the difference can be noticed as well as felt within from any other private or government institute. Other than the quality of education, the discipline and dedication speaks for itself. Pakistan Army and all other armed forces of Pakistan are among the best ones in the...

The Day Pakistan Stood Still

There come many days in the calendar around the year we hail as holidays, one of them being the Defense day on 6th of September. The common trend celebrating the defense day nowadays include changing your Facebook profile picture ,tweeting up a defense day tweet and spending the whole day at home doing nothing productive. Only a few dig around and really read about one of the most important days in our history or make enough effort to ask their parents, their grandparents about the day, the events, the people we own our lives to. Let us have a glimpse of the day Pakistan stood still as told by our elders and history. It was a calm and quiet morning, the people slumbered in their beds had not a slightest clue of what awaited them. The “Zinda dilan e Lahore” were busy making their traditional breakfasts when suddenly a familiar voice was heard over the wire. “Mere Aziz Hamawano”, it was the president, “We are under attack”, the people silenced  he continued, “The enemy has attacked the frontier border of Lahore”. The sun of 6th September shone with a dreadful news of a vicious war awaited to test the spirits of a nation. But this news did not cause any panic or mayhem rather instilled a sense of responsibility in the hearts of the people to protect the motherland from the ungodly plans of the nemesis. The role that Pakistani defense forces played that day is quiet well known to all of us but something rather amazing happened on 6th September, It was not only the military that is to be accredited alone for the victory that day but the unsung civil warriors, the teenage girls, the enthusiastic boys, the men, the women every individual gave his best that day. Everyone just wanted to contribute to the struggle somehow. My Nana Abu used to tell  that there were air crafts flying all over the sky, they were in  a battle with the enemy crafts and people stood on their rooftops, in the streets chanting slogans in the support of their Air force, People calling out “ O pichion Marr,Side te side te marr” not a wise thing,  one might say to do in the times of war but people were so emotional at the time that rather a common feel prevailed in the streets that not the country but our very home is under attack and our brothers from the Army, the Navy, the Air force are trying to push back the adversaries.People volunteered to gather funds, donated money, blood, food, medicines and sent letters of support to their “Fauji bhai”...

Preemminence of Defense Day

The supremacy of nations, their ever-lasting impact on the outer world, historical accomplishments and their strong faith in patriotism are just the reflections of the valor and sacrifices that nations put forward in every field and their armies in particular. It’s a well-established fact and a historical perspective that only those nations stand apart which have faced the wrath of time and shown bravery in the field of battle when required, for nations get such inspirations from these events that yield the best out of them for years to come. Glancing at the history of our country; Pakistan, we find it filled with tales and occurrences of countless sacrifices and boundless heroism; from the day of independence to recent operations in North Waziristan, our people have displayed great patriotism but like a silver lining in sky there lies a junction in our history which will be reminisced for centuries to come. In September 1965, due to unavoidable circumstances Pakistan and India waged war at each other. Ground, air and naval forces of the two countries collided with full force resulting in heavy losses on both sides. The operational area of war, spread from the northern front of Kashmir to southern plains near Multan. May it be the ‘Great Tank Battle’ at ‘Chawinda‘or the courageous work of ‘M.M.Alam’, all are the tales of great heroism during that period. Gen. Ayub Khan, who was the president of Pakistan assured the whole nation to have strong faith in their abilities. War was vigorous, it continued for days but as The Australian Times rightfully acclaimed on the front cover of its daily edition as “PAKISTANI WIN”, the whole nation was relieved and the sensational win was celebrated by everyone as a gift of God. To mark this great achievement, the government of Pakistan announced to celebrate ‘DEFENSE DAY’ on 6th sept every year. ‘Defense Day’ not only signifies the great tribute of the nation to our heroes, but it also acts as a symbol of determination, as a shield of our unity and direction of our path to success, which was laid by the martyrs. Defense day is the reminder of that very dream of martyrs, who gave it all for this country; respectful and glorious place in comity of nations. Defense Day celebrated every year is the revival of national integrity that comes at risk due to manipulative mindset of some that intend to weaken the national setup. These forces, always tend to destabilize the mighty pillars of nationalism. To tackle such atrocitic approaches, defense day serves as a useful technique to arise sense of proudness, patriotism and nationalism. For the last...

7th September, Air Force Day Pakistan

‘Upon equal ground; that we were brothers all In honor, as in one community, Scholars and gentlemen.’ William Wordsworth Whilst the astoundment of the world, and to the shock of many: a nascent state took its destined geographical form on 14th August 1947.Marking the emergence of an ideology, victory of a vision and triumph of an aspiring Muslim creed. The staunch faith in the two nation theory, relentless motivation of the masses and tactical genius of the leadership brought forth this holy “Land of the Pure”-Pakistan. However, the challenges faced by this newly established state began to surface soon after its creation. The presence of an inherited dysfunctional system: thwarted all nationalistic policies right at the outset. The administrative incapability and economic insufficiency created a governing turmoil which when coupled with an impending Indian war threat; became a recipe for a possible disaster. As the new state was just shedding the shackles of its co-existence, an actualization of the anticipated Indian outrage became real. By the connivance of the anti-Pakistan forces in 1948 a war was waged over the disputed territory of Kashmir. The Indian military hierarchy plotted to sabotage our frail country. Even under these difficult circumstances this great nation invested with diversity of colors stood united, differentiated in sects posed unanimous, tensed to core remained hopeful to oust all odds and defend its freedom to its last breath. The determination and commitment of Pakistani nation and its unflinching will to sustain, persist and maintain its newly gained existence, surpassed all emotions and proved triumphant. The first battle in its full swing took the lives of many gallant soldiers and civilians alike, who sworn by their unordain sense of patriotism: put there lives at stake to procure for their nation. Although the battle was won but the threat of a new confrontation persisted .As the lapels of time unfolded, the resilient nation continued to toil, to survive and attained a steady national coherence, economic stability and political pertinence. A growing Pakistani influence in the region and alliance with USA via CEATO, SENTO and FTAs with China in the 1950s and 1960s inaugurated an era of strategic consolidation on the world stage. However, this window of progress was not welcome to all including the enemy state India. The growing Kashmiri resentment against the Indian government became a concern for Pakistanis in the early 1960s.Who bonded by the oath of Muslim brotherhood decided to be the voice of the oppressed and defense of the downtrodden. In 1965, Pakistan started an infiltration into the disputed territory of Kashmir and successfully captured many high key areas, while Indian army caught aloof planned...

Buck up Jawan! Duty Calls!

When the night grows dark and the cold sweeps in. When the wolves howl and the wildlings growl in despair. It’s when they keep their calm. It’s when they hold their nerves. Pacing silently through the shadows. Feet steady, arms taut. Heads down and backs strong. Their eyes gauge through the mist, looking for trouble and when the target is in sight, they leap out and roar like a lion, firing round after round at the enemy until it’s deadly silent again. The cold sweeps in one more time while they inspect the remains. Another night grows old, another enemy slain. These are our Pak Fauj Jawans protecting our borders, protecting their motherland, protecting us. The Pakistani militia, ranking 6th largest in the world, has proved itself time and time again. Our soldiers risk their lives every day in the name of duty and many of our Shaheed have performed miracles in the honor of protecting Pakistan from foreign elements. Buck up, jawan! You are the pride of the nation. Today we not only celebrate the war of 1965 but the efforts of Pakistani army as a whole. Their loyalty to the nation, their discipline at work, their propriety at duty and their skill in battle are commendable attributes which only a few words can describe. Our soldiers portray such heroism in the battlefield, such vigor and enthusiasm that one is baffled to see them perform. This is of course the fruit of the tough training they go through. Our Jawans leave their families behind for the sake of protecting the country. They are the reason the civilians can sleep peacefully for we all know that our borders are under high guard and our lions are keeping a close watch. The Pakistan Army today is busy with operation Zarb-e-Azb (the final blow), fighting militants in North Waziristan. These militants have haunted the nation for several years. They have killed our brothers and sisters through their attacks and suicide-bombings. The Pak Fauj is now working day and night to rid the country of these infiltrators once and for all. The operation began after militant hideouts and training facilities were targeted. The goal is to sweep these terrorists from their roots. Up till now hundreds have been killed and yet more remain. Today on Defense Day let us pray for our Mujahids who are fighting for us. May God give them strength in times of distress and may they appear victorious after this turmoil has ended for they are our defense, they our shield and they are our last hope. (Ameen) “People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because...
